Installing a Feature Pack in Maximo 7.6.x
Today, I'm going to go over step by step installing a Maximo 7.6 Feature Pack. It is very similar to the process for installing Interim Fixes, which I documented at Installing an Interim Fix in Maximo 7.6.x. I thought that a post dedicated solely to Feature Pack installation would be useful.
Feature Pack releases differ from older Fix Pack releases in that, in addition to bug fixes and compatibility notices, new functionality may be added. See Maximo 7.6 Maintenance Delivery Strategy for more information.
First, I downloaded the latest Feature Pack from Fix Central (220.127.116.11). Let's step through that first.
At Fix central, in Product selector, I started typing Maximo, and selected Maximo Asset Management from the list of choices. The next dropdown menu appeared; I selected 18.104.22.168. Then the Platform dropdown appeared, from which I chose Linux.
On this page (the screen shot does not include all results), to download a single fix, click on its name. That takes you to the next page.
Click Download now.
Depending on which method you use, you may see the Java applet security following screen (This particular one is for Java 1.7 for Windows)
You can select the check box next to "Do not show this again for apps from the publisher and location above" if you do not want to see this warning again.
The download progress box. Note that when using DownloadDirector I have six connections to the Fix Central database, making the download faster than alternate methods.
Once completed, the Feature Pack is in your DownloadDirector directory, called MAMMTFP7602IMRepo.zip. Decoding the file name:
|MAM||Maximo Asset Management|
|FP||Feature Pack (formerly Fix Pack)|
|IM||for IBM Installation Manager|
|Repo||Installation Manager repository|
When the installation is complete, exit the Installation Manager. Now the files have been laid down. Next, start the configuration program:
Windows: Use Start > Programs > Tivoli's process automation suite > Configuration Program, for example C:\IBM\SMP\ConfigTool\ConfigUI.exe
UNIX: In the <installLocation>/ConfigTool directory run ConfigUI, for example, /opt/IBM/SMP/ConfigTool/ConfigUI
In the Deployment Operations pane, select the Update Database, Build and Deploy Application EAR Files option and click Finish.
After you click Finish, the installer does all of the tasks you selected. Note the status messages (and, sometimes, error messages) scrolling below in the Configuration View Console.
And it is complete! It has updated the database, rebuilt and redeployed the ear files, and started the Maximo server.
Thanks for lasting through 23 screen shots. Until next time!
