Abstract

This document shows the recommended minimum PTF levels for IBM i optical and tape device support.

Here are the recommended minimum program temporary fix (PTF) levels for IBM i optical and tape device support.

  •     MF54232 and MF52470 (or superseding PTFs) for SLR, VXA, and HH LTO2 LVD devices.
  • For all other devices:
    • MF49855, MF52215, MF54918, MF57280, MF66255, MF68340, MF68368, and MF68622
    • MF57526, MF60580, MF62954, MF64860, MF65105, MF65106, MF66515, MF68341, MF68342, and MF99011
Note for native attach:
  • MF55409 (superseded by MF66852) enables support for tape library devices with up to 15,000 storage elements.
 
Notes for NPIV attach:
  •     For alternate IPL, MF53454 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.
  • VIOS level: 2.1.2 or later for Fibre Channel adapters
  • VIOS level 2.2 or later for FCoE or Converged Network adapters.
  • VIOS level 2.2 or later for LTO6 and LTO7
  • VIOS level 2.4 or later for LTO8
  • When using IBM i 7.1 with VIOS level 2.2 or later, the technology refresh PTF for IBM i 7.1, MF99002 or later must also be applied.
  • PTF MF55409 (superseded by MF66852) enables support for tape library devices with up to 15,000 storage elements.
Notes for Client virtual tape devices:
  •     The server (hosting) partition must be running IBM i 7.1 TR2 or later
  • The following PTFs are also needed on the client and server (hosting) partition: MF52103
  • For alternate IPL, MF51975, MF51976, MF51662, MF52327, and MF52479 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.
Notes for VIOS partition owned SAS and USB tape devices:
  •     For USB tape, you also need VIOS interim fix IV20593s01
  • For alternate IPL, MF52479 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.

V6R1M1

  •  MF49848, MF54231, MF55017, MF55930, MF56732, MF56922, MF57268, MF57532, MF58080, MF58213, MF59313, MF59679, and MF59742, MF60579.

Notes for native attach:

  • For alternate installation from devices in a 3494 tape library, MF46930 and MF50005 are also needed and must be permanently applied on the SAVSYS media.
  • MF50093 is also recommended for Fibre Channel tape libraries. Applying this PTF might require a configuration change to ensure that there is a control path drive on each IOA port.
  • MF55406 (superseded by MF59679) along with MF50093 enables support for tape library devices with up to 15,000 storage elements.

Notes for NPIV attach:

  • For alternate IPL, MF53447 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.
  • PTF MF55406 (superseded by MF59679) enables support for tape library devices with up to 15,000 storage elements.

Notes for Client virtual tape devices:

  • The server (hosting) partition must be running IBM i 7.1 TR2 or later
  • The following PTFs are needed on the client partition: MF51988, MF52106, MF57578, and MF60401
  • For alternate IPL, MF51987, MF51988, MF52325, MF52423, and MF52482 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.

Notes for VIOS partition owned SAS and USB tape devices:

  • The following PTFs are needed on the client partition: MF51988, MF57578, and MF60401
  • For alternate IPL, MF51987, MF51988, MF52325, MF52423, and MF52482 must be permanently applied and on the SAVSYS media.
