IBM Spectrum Protect client has the ability to backup file systems in parallel, prior to implementing this functionality it should be verified that the system has sufficient memory resources.

If your system has sufficient processing capacity and memory to handle the load, apply the following setting in your client options file (dsm.opt for Windows®, and dsm.sys for other platforms):
resourceutilization 5
Also, MAXNUMMP needs to always exceed the resourceutilization value. In this case it needs to be set to 6, this value allows 2 file systems to be backed up in parallel.
The reason why resourceutilization needs to be set to 5 is that each file system needs at least one producer session that scans the client system for eligible files. For example, 2 producer sessions are needed to backup 2 file systems in parallel. Starting from a resource utilization value of 5, 2 producer sessions are allowed. All smaller values will allow only one producer session:
