IBM AIX: Version mismatch between unix file and command kdb

Education

Abstract

This technical note outlines details about the warning message, 'WARNING: Version mismatch between unix file and command kdb'.

Content

While running kdb, you may encounter the following warning message, 'WARNING: Version mismatch between unix file and command kdb'.
You may ignore this message, as it has no effect on kdb functionality. kdb will prompt this version mismatch message as your LPAR is running with an updated or iFix kernel;

This message commonly appears when there is an ifix installed on your system that updated your /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 fileset. This slightly modifies the version of your unix_64 file, but not kdb. As kdb and the kernel are normally built concurrently, the system prompts the version mismatch warning due to the unix_64 file modification. Again, this warning can safely be ignored.
This message may also appear with service pack (SP) updates to your system that only contain the kernel and not kdb.
