Temporarily stopping the Data Collector from connecting to the Managing Server without the need to unconfigure the DC
Let's say you are debuggng an ITCAM Data Collector (DC) issue and you want to temporarily disable the DC from connecting to your Managing Server (MS). Typically, you will unconfigure the DC from your server, then restart the WAS server and optionally, uninstall the DC files to come back to a pre-DC state of the WAS server. There's a quicker, faster way to do the same, without having to completely unconfigure the DC.
If you want to temporarily stop your DC from connecting to your MS, you can do the following:
go to your ../runtime/<server>/datacollector.properties file and make a backup first. Then open it and comment out the lines kernel.codebase and kernel.rfs.address, and save the file.
another possibility (in DC v.7.2.x) is to write a custom sed/awk script to change the <server>.<serverPath>.xxx.DCManualInput.txt in the runtime directory. There is one file created for each server. The script should change the following property values:
You can do either one of the above, or both. However, you will need to restart the server after you make these changes. Once you make these changes, and restart, the DC will not connect to your MS. To restore back to normal, simply undo these changes and restart back again. This is a much faster way of temporarily stopping the DC connecting to your MS rather than unconfiguring and uninstalling the DC.
