CICS TS 5.2 Install
Today's topic is about CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.2 which was announced in April 2014 and was generally available (GA) in June this year.
CICS TS V5.2 has changed what you need to do in order to install CICS TS. Read on to see...
- why this change was introduced.
- what changes you will need to make to your JCL for a smooth activation.
You can obtain CICS TS for z/OS V5.2 in 3 offerings:
- CICS TS for z/OS V5.2
- CICS TS for z/OS Developer Trial V5.2
- CICS TS for z/OS Value Unit Edition V5.2
Each offering consists of the CICS TS for z/OS V5.2 - Base component plus an appropriate Activation module.
Why this change was introduced:
The activation module was introduced to allow a site to quickly and easily upgrade a CICS TS for z/OS Developer Trial to CICS TS for z/OS without having to re-install. See the topic on Upgrading from CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Developer Trial, Version 5 Release 2 for more information.
What changes you will need to make to your JCL for a smooth activation:
The CICS TS and Data Sharing Server JCL STEPLIB concatenation needs to include the activation module data set. Notice that there are 3 deliverables: CICS TS, CICS TS VUE, and CICS TS Dev Trial. Each deliverable has the core Base code Program Directory and a separate activation module Program Directory. The core program directory doesn't spell out clearly about installing the activation module with the base product. It just says you need the activation module to run the IVP (installation verification program). I need point out here that you need install the activation module (FMID: HCTS520) with your base product in order for CICS to be fully operational. In other words, if you just install the base product FMIDs only without the activation module, your install will be fine, but when you bring up CICS TS 5.2, you will be running into a "DFHKE0007 Licence module DFHSIVT not found" issue.
You also need to ensure you update the JCL used to start any CICS data sharing server address spaces. Failure to add the activation module data set to your STEPLIB concatenation can result in the Shared TS (temporary storage) queue server, Named Counter Server, Region Status Server, or Coupling Facility Data Table Server failing with messages:
DFHXQ0105 Shared TS queue server initialization failed because program DFHXQMN is not licensed for use
DFHNC0105 Named counter server initialization failed because program DFHNCMN is not licensed for use
DFHCF0105 CF data table server initialization failed because program DFHCFMN is not licensed for use
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope you all had a great summer!
