Deleting a Classification if another exists with the same name

Troubleshooting


Problem

Classifications cannot be deleted if another Classification with the same name exists and already in use with objects like ASSET or LOCATION.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1- Go to > Administration > Classification
2- Create a new Classification record:
  • Classification: ‘VBTEST’
  • Organization ‘EAGLENA’
  • Site: ‘BEDFORD’
  • Use with: ‘ASSET’
3- Action: Add/Modify Properties > Classification > New Row (Create the same name but different org & siteid)
  • Classification: ‘VBTEST’
  • Organization: ‘EAGLESA’
  • Site: ‘CONCSITE’
4- Go to ASSETS > ASSETS.
  • Create a new record 
  • Go to the Specification tab, add classification ‘VBTEST’ and save.
5- Go to > Administration > Classification > Action menu >Add/Modify Properties > Classification
• Filter by ‘VBTEST’ value
• Click the Delete icon for the VBTEST row with Org ‘EAGLESA’ & Site ‘CONCSITE’
• Attempt to delete it will throw this error:

Symptom

BMXAA0206E This classification cannot be deleted as it is referred to in a classification hierarchy.
