"shutting down due to possible conflict with other slapd process."

Troubleshooting

Problem

When exporting to an Excel (XLS) file from Impromptu, the decimal values are disappearing.

Resolving The Problem

This may happen when using the French edition of Windows and changing the regional settings to use the decimal comma (virgule) instead of a period (point).

This may intefer with other regional parameters and cause an incorrect file to be created.

Go to the main tab in Regional Parameters and change from "Français - Standard" to "Anglais - EU" and visa versa. PPES 6.61.700, Solaris 2.6.

Description:

Unable to connect to Upfront.

Error Message -

The directory server is not responding.

The two directory servers normally used are -

- slapd-ultra-13 (started on port 390);
- slapd-ultra-132 (not started, normally on port 389).

The log file of slapd-ultra-132 states -

Shutting down due to possible conflict with other slapd process.

The error message indicates a conflict with another slapd. UNIX netstat command does not show any usage of port 389.

With the Netscape Console, a new directory server was created on another port number. If a new directory server was created on port 389 an error occurs -

Port Is in Use.
Port 389 on host ultra-13.domain.fr is in use. If you proceed, you may cause both the new and the existing server to become inoperative. Do you want to proceed ?

Solution:

After deleting a file named "lock" in the /slapd-ultra-132>/locks directory, the directory server started.
