Problem

This technote identifies an issue that can occur where performing various IBM® Rational® ClearCase® (CC) operations results in a Blue/Black screen (BSOD) with the heading: []IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high [], on hosts where Microsoft Forefront or Symantec 10.2 are installed.

Symptom

When performing various ClearCase operations such as checkout, save a view private file, etc., you receive a Blue/Black screen (BSOD) with the following heading:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high.

This error may occur under either of the following circumstances:

  • Microsoft Forefront is installed on the machine.
  • Symantec 10.2 is installed on the machine (which is non-Vista).
