INTRODUCTION

Attempt ot migrate AIX from one version to a another shows no Migration
Option.
SCOPE
-----
AIX v4.3.3
AIX 5L
SYMPTOM
-------
In an attempted migration from AIX Version 4.3.3 to 5L, no migration
option is presented.
SOLUTION
--------
1. Boot the system back to AIX v4.3.3
2. Look for the pad string by running the following command:
/usr/lpp/bosinst/blvset -d /dev/hdisk# -glevel
where hdisk# is your AIX v4.3.3 boot disk
The result should show 4.3.3. If it does not run the following
command:
/usr/lpp/bosinst/blvset -d /dev/hdisk# -plevel
For the input of the above command enter 4.3.3, then run:
/usr/lpp/bosinst/blvset -d /dev/hdisk# -glevel
The result should now show 4.3.3. If it does not move to step 3.
3. Verify that the necessary filesystems are on the system and are on
appropriate Logical Volumes (LVs). For example:
/dev/hd4 /
/dev/hd2 /usr
/dev/hd9var /var
/dev/hd3 /tmp
/dev/hd1 /home
4. Now run lqueryvg -Atp on each of the hdisks in the rootvg. Check
the following in the output:
a. the PV Count should match the number of disk in rootvg.
b. the Physical IDs should match the IDs from the lspv output.
If the above does not match, then this issue needs to be looked at. The
Volume Gropu Descriptor Area (VGDA) could be corrupter, or there could be
a physical disk problem, chances are you will have to do a restore or boot
from the mirror (if you unmirrored rootvg prior to the migation). All these
problems fall outside the scope of this TechNote.
