"No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF)" when testing database or launching Controller

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches 'Controller Configuration', and opens database connections. User selects database connection, and clicks on green tick ('test') icon. - An error appears. A similar error appears when launching the Controller client.

Symptom

Controller Configuration:
No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF)

Launching the Controller Client:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.ArgumentException: No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF).
