Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to resolve message CPFA0E6 when accessing a mounted directory on a Windows 2008 server.
Resolving The Problem
A NFS mount to a windows 2008 server is successful; however, any attempt to touch the directory fails with
message CPFA0E6,
Message . . . . : Object handle rejected by file server.
A communications trace of this failure shows the Windows server returning a NFS2ERR_STALE (Stale file
handle) error. In a Windows 2008 server, significant changes were made to the NFS implementation. To
correct this problem, the following registry key must be changed to a 0.
Important Note:
Caution should always be used when editing the registry values. You should follow proper and safe
methods of editing these values:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NfsSvr\Parameters\SecureHandleLevel
The default setting is 6. Change this value to 0, and stop and restart the Windows server.
Important Note:
Make sure to unmount first. After stopping and restarting, mount the directory again and attempt to access
the data.
