The SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is one of the most popular ERP applications and available on Power Linux since 2004. The combination of SAP ERP and Power Linux has shown market leading benchmark results as well as continous reliability and maintainability. This combination is now also described in a new SAP paper showing a sample SAP architecture on Power Linux.
An ERP system setup requires an optimal environment and landscape architecture. Therefore the new SAP on Power Linux reference architecture provides a blueprint for a small and efficient SAP ERP landscape on a Power Linux server. The intention of the paper is to give potential customers a first feeling of the solution especially on required infrastructure tools for monitoring, management or data backup.
The paper starts with an overview of the required SAP products, the SAP landscape setup and architecture principles. The next section describes the setup of the reference architecture and its components, moving on to an overview on SAP on Linux and the Power hardware. External storage as well as PowerVM as virtualization solution and its different features are also described. Further topics are monitoring and automization features and the DB2 database that is used in the architecture.
