Troubleshooting

Problem

Retain tip H201063: Network port assignments do not match Microsoft Windows NT network properties.

Resolving The Problem

Source
RETAIN tip H201063

Network port assignments do not match Microsoft Windows NT network properties.

Affected configurations
The system is a Netfinity 4000R server, type 8652, any model.

The following Network Operating System is affected:

  • Microsoft Windows NT, version 4.0 with Service Pack 5 applied

Details
The Netfinity 4000R server has two on-board Ethernet adapter ports.

When the BIOS scans the bus for the adapters, they are numbered 1 and 2 on the front panel indicator lights. When Microsoft Windows NT is installed, the same adapters are numbered 2 and 1; they do not correspond to the indicator lights on the front panel of the server.

Microsoft Windows NT scans for Network adapters differently than it scans the BIOS. Because of the scanning difference, the adapters will appear in reversed order.

NOTE: This does not affect server stability or data integrity.
