Question & Answer
Question
A customer noticed the SAQNLINK Dataset was concatenated in the Netview sample JCL proc. They could not find any information on these datasets and what it were used for.
Cause
Need more documentation.
Answer
If you browse the standard shipped NetView® JCL (CNMSJ009), you will see the following datasets :
//STEPLIB DD DSN=&SQ1..SAQNLINK,DISP=SHR (or in LNKLST)
//DSICLD DD DSN=&SQ1..SAQNCLST,DISP=SHR
//DSIPARM DD DSN=&SQ1..SAQNPARM,DISP=SHR
These datasets are new with NetView® v6r1 and did not exist on v5 or previous releases. When the NetView® product is installed you should see those datasets defined and populated with data. By default NetView® is set up to use elements of those datasets, therefore you do need to have valid copies of those shipped datasets on your system and references to them in the NetView® startup JCL.
Many customer reported U009 abends in the past when they migrated to NetView® 6.1 or NetView® 6.2, because they were using the previous version of their NetView® startup procedure and these datasets were missing.
What are these datasets used for ?
The SAQNxxxx Libraries are for the GDPS Product ACTIVE/ACTIVE component. However, they may be used by NetView® for other features or components in the future. Even if you are not using GDPS or the Active/Active component, these libraries are still REQUIRED and need to be included in the NetView® JCL.
