Abstract

Netcool Configuration Manager - How do you create a custom driver?

Body

While NCM provides quite a substantial amount of network device drivers, you might find yourself in a situation where custom driver is needed.

If that is the case, NCM does provide a method for you to create custom driver and here's how...

From NCM Webstart GUI, to create a custom driver, you can go to Tools -> New Driver.

There are 2 options to start with:

(1) Custom Drivers

(2) IBM Templates

For more information regarding the 2 options, please refer to =>

If this is your first custom driver, choose "IBM Templates".

Then, enter all the VTMOS details accordingly.

Next, you can configure the device script.

If you want to build the device script based on an existing one, you can choose "Load a new device script".

Once that's done, you can proceed to configure the Resource Access Document (RAD).

Lastly, you would need to specify a short description for your driver.

Now, let's refresh the driver list and sort the drivers by UUID, so that all the custom drivers will appear first on the list.

After that, you should see the custom driver.

If you want to, you still can edit the driver (Tools -> Edit Driver).

If you are happy with it, then you can now move the driver to production.

Once in production, you can start to utilize the custom driver to manage your devices.
