Problem

When a system is configured with a ServeRAID M5014, M5015, M5025 or M1015 SAS/SATA controller, the following error message may appear during Power On Self Test (POST): The native configuration is no longer supported by the current controller and firmware. Please ensure that correct controller is being used. Press any key to continue, the configuration will be marked as foreign and part of it may be imported if possible. The configuration will likely not be importable.

Symptom

When a system is configured with a ServeRAID M5014, M5015, M5025 or M1015 SAS/SATA controller, the following error message may appear during Power On Self Test (POST):

  The native configuration is no longer supported by the current controller and firmware.
Please ensure that correct controller is being used.
Press any key to continue, the configuration will be marked as foreign and part of it may be imported if possible.

The configuration will likely not be importable.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3200 M3, type 7327, any model
  • System x3200 M3, type 7328, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • ServeRAID M1015 SAS/SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0831, any replacement part number
  • ServeRAID M5014 SAS/SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0916, replacement part number 46M0918
  • ServeRAID M5015 SAS/SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0829, replacement part number 46M0851
  • ServeRAID M5025 SAS/SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0830, replacement part number 46M0854

This tip is not software specific.

The 12.12.0-0098 (and previous) and 20.10.1 (and previous) firmware for the M5000 Series SAS/SATA Controllers and M1015 SAS/SATA Controller is affected.

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in ServeRAID M5000 Series SAS/SATA Controller Firmware version 12.12.0-0111.

The file is now available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

The message is intermittent. The system can be safely restarted until the message disappears and the system completes the boot up.

Additional information

Two timing issues have been identified in the firmware that cause the on-board RAID key to intermittently not be recognized. This causes the controller configuration to be unreadable until the system is restarted.
