Resolving The Problem
Source
RETAIN tip: H212843
Symptom
When starting to Preboot Dynamic System Analysis (pDSA), users will see some failed IPMI Local Area Network (LAN) access attempts in the Integrated Management Module (IMM) event log.
(where IPMI = Intelligent Platform Management Interface)Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System x480 X6 Compute Node, type 4259, any model
- Flex System x880 X6 Compute Node, type 7903 , any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
Solution
The mechanism of account check in Preboot DSA will be enhanced. DSA can use CIM instead of IPMI LAN to check the account.
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of pDSA 14D.
The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2014.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
These warning messages in the IMM event log can be ignored.
Additional information
When DSA Preboot is loading, DSA Preboot will get the private account and will check this account with IPMI LAN. In Information Technology Element (ITE) systems, IPMI LAN does not support the private account. When checking with IPMI LAN using the private account, it will fail.
From IMM GA5, IMM will log the failed IPMI access attempts. DSA will try to use CIM instead of IPMI LAN to check the account.
