Multicast Support for Virtual IP Addresses

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document explains that Multicast is not supported for Virtual IP addresses.

Resolving The Problem

This document explains that Multicast is not supported for Virtual IP addresses.

MulticastSocket.setInterface (in other words, IP_MULTICAST_IF sockets option) does not allow a virtual IP address.

Currently, a virtual IP address is not allowed for either the IP_MULTICAST_IF option or as the local interface for the IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP option.
