Multi-Boot Agent (MBA) configuration menu errors with Broadcom adapters - Servers

Problem

An invalid configuration error message is displayed when attempting to access the Multi-Boot Agent (MBA) configuration menu of the affected Broadcom NetXtreme II 1000 Express Dual Port Ethernet adapters. This error message also is seen with exiting theMBA configuration menu. This error prevents users from making updates to the MBA configuration.

Symptom

An invalid configuration error message is displayed when attempting to access the Multi-Boot Agent (MBA) configuration menu of the affected Broadcom NetXtreme II 1000 Express Dual Port Ethernet adapters.

This error message also is seen with exiting the MBA configuration menu. This error prevents users from making updates to the MBA configuration.
Affected Configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • 2/4 Port Ethernet Expansion Card for BladeCenter, Option 44W4479, any CRU
  • Ethernet Expansion Card (CIOv) for IBM BladeCenter, Option 44W4475, any CRU
  • NetXtreme II 1000 Express Dual Port Ethernet Adapter, Option 42C1780, any CRU
  • NetXtreme II 1000 Express Quad Port Ethernet Adapter for IBM System x, Option 49Y4220, any CRU
  • NetXtreme II 1000 Express Quad Port Ethernet Adapter for IBM System x, Option 49Y7948, any CRU

  • This tip is not system specific.
  • This tip is not software specific.
  • The Broadcom firmware for the 5709 NIC is affected.
  • The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

The fix is available in the 2.1.7e (or later) Broadcom firmware update tool.

The fix includes new Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) firmware for the Broadcom adapters.
