MSG IEC070I 104-204 data set would exceed 4 gig if extended.
On a message IEC070I - 104-204, an error occurred during EOV processing for a VSAM data set.
There were 10 volumes on the candidate list for extend via the IDCAMS alter command, but the data set would not extend.
Also, the data class was set up to allow for an extend beyond the 4 gig limit, although the job itself did not exceed that limit.
Answer
Although the data set was assigned to an SMS DATACLAS which currently had EXTENDED ADDRESSABILITY=YES, it was actually first defined before the DATACLAS was changed to include EA=YES.
The solution is to redefine the data set assigning the same DC.
This will pick up the new attribute and assign it, allowing the data set to extend beyond 4 gig.
During DEFINE processing the attributes of the DATACLAS at that point in time are applied to the data set
