Question
Minimum Charges for LTL
Answer
Minimum Charges for LTL
Shippers often define a minimum charge for an LTL contractsection.
The minimum charge typically ranges from $50 to $150. When youdefine a lane for the contract section Sterling TMS uses the minimumcharge from the section as the default value for the direct minimumcharge for the lane.
For example:
- You specify a minimum charge of $100 for this section.
- You send a package that only costs $80 to ship based on the freightclass weight and discount.
- Sterling TMS appliesthe $100 charge to this shipment.
Notes:
- Do not specify a minimum charge if you set the Tariff fieldto No Rating. Sterling TMS will neverapply the minimum charge.
- You can define both a direct minimum charge and indirect minimumcharge for an LTL rating lane. Sterling TMS uses the SMCCarrierConnect system to calculate whether the shipment is being deliveredusing direct or indirect locations. Sterling TMS then appliesthe direct or indirect minimum charge to the shipment.
