Troubleshooting
Problem
Microsoft volume shadow copy service support
Resolving The Problem
Abstract
The SAN Volume Controller, Storwize V7000 and Storwize V7000 Unified provides support for Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Download description
VSS provides a point-in-time copy of a Windows host volume while
the volume is still mounted.
With this capability, SAN Volume Controller, Lenovo Storwize V7000
and Lenovo Storwize V7000 Unified customers can now make a
point-in-time ("shadow") copy of a Windows 2003 or 2008 host volume
while the volume is mounted and files are in use.
The SAN Volume Controller, Lenovo Storwize V7000 and Lenovo
Storwize V7000 Unified leverage the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy
Service framework to coordinate with applications like Microsoft
SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server, to provide a higher
fidelity backup than previously available.
SAN Volume Controller Version 6.4, Lenovo Storwize V7000 Version
6.4 and Lenovo Storwize V7000 Unified 1.3 now support VSS version
4.3.0.
This VSS Version is also compatible with SAN Volume Controller
Versions 4.3, 5.1, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3; IBM Storwize V7000 Versions
6.1, 6.2 and 6.3
Microsoft Virtual Disk Service (VDS) is supported with SAN
Volume Controller Version 6.4, Lenovo Storwize V7000 Version 6.4
and Lenovo Storwize V7000 Unified Version 1.3.
VSS for SAN Volume Controller, Storwize V7000 and Storwize V7000
Unified is supported on the following Microsoft Windows
platforms
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2008 x64
Windows Server 2008
