Symptom
When running the Microsoft Windows installer through the High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster Manager provisioning feature, the following error may return:
The partition selected for installation (1) does not exist on disk 0. Make sure the unattend answer file's <ImageInstall> setting references a valid partition on this computer, and then restart the installation.
Affected configurations
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack
This tip is not hardware specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The Microsoft HPC Cluster Manager utility is affected.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Ensure that the diskpart.txt file is correct.
This error message should not be seen if Windows has the correct drivers and diskpart.txt produces a drive that Windows can install on to.
Refer to Microsoft's documentation on what an acceptable install target is.
diskpart.txt can be found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft HPC Pack\Data\InstallShare\Config, and should look like the following:
select disk 0
clean
create partition primary
assign letter=c
format FS=NTFS LABEL="Node" QUICK OVERRIDE
active
exit
Additional information
If the initial setup produces a valid hard drive that does not meet Windows criteria for a valid installation target, this error can occur. Ensure that the files that handle setting up and finding the disks are correct and this error should not occur.
This error can also be seen if the unattend.xml file has been modified, as Microsoft does not support installations when the file has been modified.
