Troubleshooting
Problem
Microprocessor speed switch settings for the Netfinity 1000.
Resolving The Problem
When you replace a microprocessor with one that has a different speed 8 , you must change the switch settings on the system board.
Before you begin
. Read Safety information in the HMM.
. Power-off the server and all other connected devices.
. Disconnect all external cables attached to the server; then, remove the server cover.
. Locate the Flash Utility Diskette that you created in Remote administration in the HMM.
Note
If you have not already done so, download the appropriate flash update program. Review the applicable README files, and use this information to create a Flash Utility Diskette. Perform the POST/BIOS (flash) update procedure.
1. Locate the configuration switches (also known as rocker switches) on the system board. For more information, refer to the label inside the server, or see System board illustration.
2. To set the appropriate microprocessor speed, set switches 1 to 4 as shown in Table 8. It might be helpful to use the end of a small screwdriver to set the switch.
Note
Switches 5 to 8 are not used for microprocessor speed settings.
Attention
Before you change the settings for switches 1 through 4, be sure that you check the orientation of the server system board to correctly identify the switch number locations. If you change the settings for the wrong switches, you might seriously damage server components or options.
The correct switch settings for your system board were set at the factory. If you change the switches to the wrong settings, you might seriously damage your server's components or options. For reference, switch settings for various microprocessor (CPU) and front side bus (FSB) clocks are shown in the following table (switches 1 through 4). The switch settings establish the ratio between the microprocessor clock and the front side bus clock. Therefore, two different speed microprocessors, each with a different FSB speed, might use the same switch settings (400 MHz microprocessor with 66 MHz FSB and 600 MHz microprocessor with 100 MHz FSB, for example); this is not an error.
Locate in the table the microprocessor speed and front side bus speed the microprocessor is rated for, then make sure the jumper switches are set as shown.
