Demonstration of the steps to use the Microcode Discovery Service for your VIO Server
Objective
Use the IBM Microcode Discovery Service to check the system and IO adapter microcode on a Virtual IO Server.
Environment
IBM PowerVM VIOS
Steps
- Visit the Microcode Discovery Service and download the latest catalog.mic
- From the Microcode Discovery Service site https://esupport.ibm.com/customercare/mds
- Select "Running Inventory Scout"
- Then, look for "The most current microcode catalog can be found [/] here."
- Right-Click on the link at the end of the sentence and select "Save link as".
- Copy the catalog.mic to the padmin users home directory on the VIO
- Replace the existing catalog.mic
$ oem_setup_env
# cp /var/adm/invscout/microcode/catalog.mic /var/adm/invscout/microcode/catalog.mic.orig
# mv /home/padmin/catalog.mic /var/adm/invscout/microcode/catalog.mic
# chmod 644 /var/adm/invscout/microcode/catalog.mic
# chown root:system /var/adm/invscout/microcode/catalog.mic
# exit
- Run Inventory Scout tool as padmin on the VIOS
$ invscout -report
Upload the resulting <hostname>.mup file from the padmin users home directory to the MDS Upload service
