Problem

Message engine failure to start

Symptom

The following error was reported starting WPG message engine bcgmas:
- SibMessage E BCGBus:bcgmasCluster.000-BCGBusM CWSIS0002E: The messaging engine encountered an exception while starting. Exception: com.ibm.ws.sib.msgstore.PersistenceException: CWSIS1501E: The data source has produced an unexpected exception:
com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.StaleConnectionException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection DSRA0010E: SQL State = 08006, Error Code = 17,002

Resolving The Problem

The messaging engine was not able to establish a connection to its database. The user can manually test this connection using WAS Admin Console and navigate to Resources > JDBC > Data sources, select the "bcgmasCluster.000-BCGBus" datasource and click the "Test connection" button above it. If the failure verify the functionality of your network and/or your machine network adapter.
