If there is no bootable device (diskette in floppy drive, hard disk drive with a bootable operating system, or a hard disk drive with a formatted partition that is not bootable) in the system, the following message will be displayed on the screen:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
Error loading operating system.
Affected configurations
---
The system's PXE (Preboot eXecution Environment) ROM is enabled in Setup.
Note: "Enabled" is the default setting.
Solution
---
- Verify a bootable operating system is installed
- Run diagnostics
- Check cabling
Additional information
---
In a situation in which there is a non-bootable SCSI hard drive with a Master Boot Record (MBR), system BIOS will pass control to the SCSI device.
When the SCSI device determines that there is no bootable operating system, the control is passed to the PXE ROM which will display the error message shown in the "Symptom" section above.
If PXE is disabled in Setup, the POST code displays the following message: "1962 Drive does not contain a valid boot record."
