Message CPE3425 - A Remote Host Refused an Attempted Connect Operation Using RUNRMTCMD over TCP/IP

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempting to use the RUNRMTCMD command over TCP/IP ends with message CPE3425.

Resolving The Problem

On the target system, verify the following:

Step 1: Ensure the TCP server REXEC is started.
Under NETSTAT Option 3, you should see EXEC in a listen state (This is port 512)
If the server is not listed use the STRTCPSVR *REXEC to start it.

Step 2: If the server is already started, examine the server joblogs for any errors. Use the WRKSBSJOB command for QSYSWRK command to look for jobs QTRXCnnnnn (where nnnnn is a 5-digit number).

Step 3: Run the WRKREGINF command, and examine the following entries for exit point programs using Option 8:

QIBM_QTMX_SERVER_REQ
QIBM_QTMX_SVR_LOGON
QIBM_QTMX_SVR_LOGON
QIBM_QTMX_SVR_SELECT

Step 4: Ensure there are no filter rules in place that are causing the rejection by running the command RMVTCPTBL, or you can look for filter rules by using IBM iSeries Navigator. Be aware that the RMVTCPTBL command will remove ALL filter rules on the system.
