Problem
I've got data kept in two separate files, and I need to add one of the variables from one file to the other. Ordinarily I would use the Data->Merge Files->Add Variables routine, but my problem is that there is no unique Id variable in each file that I could use as the key variable to link the two files together. The files have exactly the same number of records, and I can sort them so that the records in each one appear in exactly the same order. In a spreadsheet application, such as Excel or Lotus 1-2-3, I would sort the files and then copy the proper column from one file and paste it into the other. How can I do this in SPSS?
