Question & Answer
Question
I wish to merge 2 SPSS Statistics data sets in a one-to-one merge with a matching key variable, ID. Each case in the first data set shares an ID value with one case in the second data set and each ID appears only once in each data set. With the first data set active in the Data Editor, I opened the menu option: Data->Merge Files->Add Variables I selected the second data set and clicked Continue. In the next dialog, I clicked the box beside "Match cases on key variables" and moved ID from the Excluded Variables box to the Key Variables box. However, the "Both files provide cases" radio button was greyed out and unavailable. The two radio buttons for keyed table matches were available but these options are for many-to-one matches. I tried one of these options but cases that were present only in the keyed table data set did not appear in the merged data set. How can I get the one-to-one match that I require?
