In mostly 32-bit environments, with DB2_PINNED_BP enabled and where the Db2 memory settings are already at, or very close to, their thresholds, you can see error messages in the db2diag.log of the form "Failure locking segment in memory". However, although rare also occur in 64-bit environments where there is not enough physical memory available.
