IBM Support

Mapping to QDLS Netserver share results in message "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation".

Troubleshooting

Problem

A user attempts to access the IBM i QDLS file system via a NetServer drive mapping and this results in a Windows message saying: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation".

Symptom

A user attempts to access the IBM i QDLS file system via a NetServer drive mapping and this results in a Windows message saying: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". This can occur when the user is attempting to map a new network drive to QDLS after having already mapped a drive to the IBM i root file system, or it can occur when a user has a drive mapped to the root file system and then attempts to access QDLS on that same drive.

Windows message: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation".

The NET USE command will show that the PC has drives accessing that same IBM i IFS, with output that might be similar to the following:

The IBM i WRKJOB command will show that the QZLSFILET prestart job is active.

WRKJOB QZLSFILET <ENTER>

Note: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation" is the text associated with the following Windows System error:

System error 14

ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY
14 (0xE)

Environment

A Windows Personal Computer with a NetServer Network Drive mapped to the IBM i.

Diagnosing The Problem

The cause of and resolution to this sort of problem is described in IBM Technote N1015061 iSeries NetServer Threaded Request Support Introduced in V5R4M0.

Resolving The Problem

NetServer Threaded Support can also be completely disabled (enterprise wide) by removing the QZLSFILET pre-start Job Entry as described in IBM Technote N1018967 Disabling and Re-Enabling the Use of the Threaded QZLSFILET NetServer Job

This Windows message is misleading, expecting "Access Denied" message instead.
