LSF Default Sorting Order for Hosts Selection

Question & Answer

Question

What is the order LSF use to select hosts by default and how to modify the order?

Answer

If no type is specified, the default is depended on the command. For bsub, lsplace, lsrun, and lsgrun the default is type==local unless a string or Boolean resource is specified, in which case it is type==any. For lshosts, lsload, lsmon and lslogin the default is type==any.

If no sorting order specified when job is submitted, the candidate execution hosts will use the default order string of [r15s:pg].

To modify the default sorting order:

    1. Configure the DEFAULT_RESREQ_ORDER in lsb.params.
    2. Run badmin reconfig to have the changes take effect.
    3. Optional: Run bparams -a | grep ORDER to verify that the parameter is set.
    4. Submit your job.
    5. When checking output, you should see the sort order for the resource requirements in the RESOURCE REQUIREMENT DETAILS section.
