Problem
After moving an LPAR to a Power 8 Machine the LPAR won't boot
Cause
This is mainly caused because the LPAR has been recently migrated to a Power 8 Machine and does not meet the minimum requirements of a Power 8 Machine
Diagnosing The Problem
This issue is usually pointed out after collecting a boot debug the boot debug will look similar to the snippet below

r14=0000000000000074 <== this error indicates that the OS level does not meet the minimum level required by the Power 8 Machine
Resolving The Problem
This issue cannot be resolved on a Power 8 Machine the minimum supported level has to met before migrating the LPAR to a Power 8 Machine. So the LPAR has to be migrated back to the previous Power Machine and perform an upgrade to any of the levels listed below
The minimum supported levels for the Power 8 Machines are
- AIX 6.1
- Technology Level 7 Service Pack 6 or higher
- Technology Level 8 Service Pack 1 or higher
- Technology Level 9 Service Pack 1 or higher
- AIX 7.1
- Technology Level 1 Service Pack 6 or higher
- Technology Level 2 Service Pack 1 or higher
- Technology Level 3 Service Pack 1 or higher
