IBM Support

Lotus Notes documents with multiple attachments not archived by ICC

Troubleshooting

Problem

If a Lotus Notes email document has two or more identical attachments, IBM Content Collector (ICC) might not archive it, but instead add it to the blocklist as an invalid document. As a result, this email is not archived and remains in the originating mailbox.

Symptom

The following error message can be seen in the ICC Email Connector log file:

AFUP0002E The document com.ibm.afu.mailinterface.MailException: AFUN0021E The document has invalid attachment objects, which is indicated by duplicate attachment correlation keys. could not be rendered in the required format.

The blocklist contains a message similar to the following message:

2014-01-01T01:49:02.712Z SEVERE  [XXXX] Caught exception in processor <com.ibm.afu.mailconnector.processing.extract.AttachmentProcessor [
AFUN0021E The document has invalid attachment objects, which is indicated by duplicate attachment correlation keys.]>. Cancelling job execution. [com.ibm.afu.mailconnector.processing.AbstractProcessor throwProcessingExceptionForCaught] [MailJob-Executor-0-0 3] Exception [com.ibm.afu.mailinterface.MailException]: AFUN0021E The document has invalid attachment objects, which is indicated by duplicate attachment correlation keys. com.ibm.afu.mailinterface.domino.DominoMessage.obtainAttachments(DominoMessage.java:401)'

Environment

IBM Content Collector for Email 4.0 or earlier

Resolving The Problem

If ICC 4.0 Fix Pack 1 or earlier is installed, upgrade to ICC 4.0 Fix Pack 2 or later. Problematic documents can be kept on the blocklist until the upgrade is carried out. If you are using ICC 4.0 Fix Pack 2 or later and are seeing this problem, contact IBM Software Support.

Alternatively, in order to archive a document that has multiple identical attachments and cannot be processed, the following workaround can be applied:

  1. Open the document in the Notes client as user or administrator.
  2. Detach and save all attachments so that each of them gets a unique name.
  3. Next, delete the attachments from the email and attach the previously saved ones.
  4. The modified document can then be archived successfully in the next run of archival task route.
