Question & Answer
Question
How do I increase or decrease the logging level for the Veritas (now Symantec) NetBackup™ Linux client?
Answer
Veritas NetBackup supports five levels of logging, ranging from 0 (very little log output) to 5 (maximum log output). The default logging level of 1 may not provide enough information to troubleshoot issues..
To change the logging level, log onto the Linux client as root and modify the file /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf.
If the following line exists, modify the value to be anywhere between 1 and 5. A log level of 1 produces limited log output while a log level of 5 produces the maximum.
- VERBOSE=1
If the parameter VERBOSE is not specified, add it to the file. You may want to set the log level to 2 and then run some NetBackup commands to determine if you are getting adequate logging.
Consult your NetBackup administrator before setting a log level of 5 because that setting could have a dramatic effect on disk usage.
