Load-balanced ClearQuest Web servers that are running in a virtualized environment might attempt to use the wrong IP address when forwarding OSLC requests.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Load-balanced ClearQuest Web servers that are running in a virtualized environment might attempt to use the wrong IP address when forwarding OSLC requests.

Cause

Load-balanced OSLC requests might not work correctly if a server is running in an environment that has multiple network interfaces. For example, a ClearQuest Web server that is deployed to a system that also runs VMWare might resolve the local IP address to the wrong network interface which will inhibit successful operation.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve incorrect addressing for OSLC requests in a load-balanced ClearQuest Web server environment, complete the following steps.

  1. Review the effective settings for each server from the system log located in the following directory.

    Windows: was_profile_path\logs\server1\SystemOut.log
    Linux/UNIX: was_profile_path/logs/server1/SystemOut.log

  2. After opening the log file, look for entries like the following to determine the IP address for a Server host:

Server host name: <my server host name>
Server IP address: <my server IP address>

  3. If you determine that the IPv4 address used by a server is not accurate, edit the server host file at the following location to add an entry that associates the correct address with the host name.

    Windows:
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Linux / Unix: /etc/hosts

  4. After saving changes to the host file, restart the ClearQuest Web server to refresh the environment.
