Answer
Compatible Linux Distributions:
The Linux variant of Apex is available starting with IBM Rational Ada Developer Enterprise Edition version 4.2.2b. IBM has tested Rational Ada Developer Enterprise Edition (including both Apex and TestMate components) on IBM xSeries or compatible x86 family workstations, with Intel Pentium III or compatible processors, running the following Linux distributions:
Apex/TestMate 4.2.2b - latest build
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 10.0 (SLES 10)
Apex/TestMate version 4.2.2b built previous to Refresh #3 (November 2010)
- Red Hat Linux 8
Red Hat Linux 8 is not binary compatible with any of the other Linux versions that we support, and there are no plans for Apex 4.2.2b to support other versions of Linux. Red Hat Linux 8 is no longer supported by Red Hat. We recommend that all Linux users of older builds of Apex 4.2.2b upgrade to the latest Apex 4.2.2b build, or to Apex 4.4.0.
Apex/TestMate 4.4.0 - latest build
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 10.0 (SLES 10)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (RHEL 3)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 9.0 (SLES 9)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 10.0 (SLES 10)
SUSE Professional Linux 9.1 (SuSE 9.1)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 10.0 (SLES 10)
- Use Apex 4.2.2b for Ada'83 (also has Ada'95 but Ada'95 bugs are fixed by moving forward to v4.4)
- Use Apex 4.4.0 for Ada'95 (also has some parts of Ada'05 but bugs are fixed by moving forward to v4.4.6)
- Use Apex 4.4.6 for Ada'05 (also has Ada'95 but some bugs are fixed by moving back to v4.4.0)
Note: The latest versions of Apex have dropped Red Hat v8 and v9 plus SuSE v9. All versions of Apex are built on RHELv4 machines.
Note: As of June 2011, IBM has done no formal testing to determine compatibility of any version of Apex with RHEL 6. Based on our previous experience with new distributions of RHEL, you may encounter issues with installation, product function, or both if you install and use Apex on RHEL 6.
Installation Tips:
- When installing older builds of Apex on newer Linux distributions, use the following installation steps:
- Install any Linux distribution listed above
- Run cdinstall (or network_install)
- Run install for Apex
- If you are installing on a 64 bit machine, review technote 1378279: Installing Apex on Linux x86-64
- Install the latest share series patch for Any UNIX OS for Apex
This will get you the latest version of post_install and related files.
You can find a link to the share patch files at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rational/apex_patch_info/Apex_Native.html
- Run post_install
- Run rppinstall to install all the remaining patches
See below for links to additional information about installing Apex patches.
- During installation, if you get error messages like:
- % ./cdinstall
trap: usage: trap [-lp] [arg signal_spec ...]
Review the following technote for a workaround:
Trap error when running "cdinstall" for Apex 4.4.0
- If you get an error during post_install like:
- ./share/do_post_install: line 2548: syntax error near unexpected token `('
./share/do_post_install: line 2548: ` for lic_file in `(IFS=':'; echo $result)`'
Review technote 1292172: Syntax error near unexpected token for a workaround.
- Many problems can be resolved by accepting the latest patches for both Apex and TestMate. The patches are available on the IBM web site at: Rational Apex
The easiest way to download and install all appropriate patches for your installation of Apex is by running the rppinstall script, which you can download from: rppinstall script
For detailed instructions for downloading and installing Apex and layered product patches, please see this document on the IBM web site.
