Symptom
During the boot of the operating system, the following error message is displayed:
floppy0 : no floppy controllers found
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM e(logo)servers:
- an IBM eServer 325, type 8835, any model.
The following NOS(es) are affected:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux, version 3.

Solution
- Modify /etc/modules.conf and add to the bottom of the file: alias floppy off
- Rename your current initrd.
For example, for the 2.4.21-4.ELsmp kernel, perform the following: mv initrd-2.4.21-4.ELsmp.img initrd-2.4.21-4.ELsmp.img.old - Rebuild the initrd.
For example, for the 2.4.21-4.ELsmp kernel, perform the following: mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.21-4.ELsmp.img 2.4.21-4.ELsmp - Reboot the machine.
Additional information
This error message is a harmless error message on the e325 that is being seen since there is no floppy drive in the system.
