Link Aggregation with more than one switch

Troubleshooting

Problem

Link Aggregation is typically only allowed to one switch - this document describes one situation where multiple switches can be used.

Resolving The Problem

Link Aggregation is typically only allowed to one switch - in fact the Info Center states:

  • All of the ports must be connected to the same link partner (switch).

However if the switch is using an option such as Virtual Link Aggregation Group (VLAG) or Switch Stacking we will be able to connect to multiple switches for redundancy. This does require extra configuration on the network hardware that will vary depending on the vendor.
