License daemon: execute process failed on UNIX license server.

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote describes how to resolve IBM® Rational® license server problems on UNIX when the server cannot be started.

Cause

The lmgrd log file has the following entries:

10:03:13 (lmgrd) Please correct problem and restart daemons

The error log line "license daemon: system error code: No such file or directory" indicates that there is no Rational daemon on the license server; or that the lmgrd daemon is unable to locate the Rational daemon.

This may happen when the license file sent from IBM Rational is used in conjunction with other third party FLEXlm installation, but the rational daemon has not been installed yet.

Resolving The Problem

When the license server is started, the lmgrd daemon looks for the Rational daemon in the same directory as the license *.dat file, as well as the path specified in the VENDOR/DAEMON line of the license.dat file.

If the Rational daemon is not located in the same directory as the license *.dat file, then it is recommended that you move the Rational daemon to the same directory as the license *.dat file.

If the Rational License Server on UNIX has not been installed (and therefore no Rational exists on the host), install it from the Rational installation CD.
