Question
(Legacy Interface): What is passed in the User Agent string when a visitor is using Internet Explorer V11 ?Compatibility View? to view my website and which browser type is this reported as?
Answer
If a visitor is using later Internet Explorer releases (e.g. IE11) in Compatibility View, ?MSIE 7.0? is the value passed in the user agent string. To confirm, ?MSIE 7.0? represents Internet Explorer 7.
An example of a complete user agent string is:
?Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; InfoPath.3)?
Given this, if the user is using the ?Compatibility View? in IE11, their ?Browser Type? will be recorded as Internet Explorer 7 in IBM Digital Analytics.
Additionally, as you can see above, ?compatible? is also passed in the user agent. This signifies that ?Compatibility View? is being used by the visitor. IBM Digital Analytics processes the ?compatible? parameter passed in the user agent string and thus it can be reported on.
To report on this user agent parameter (?compatible?), you will need to use IBM Digital Analytics Explore and filter based on ?User Agent?. The specific filter logic would be ?User Agent? ?Contains? ?compatible?.
