Resolving The Problem
This, and similar errors are seen when using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) within the authoring tool, most frequently when accessing media dialog boxes (e.g. media search, create new media, advanced media parameters, etc). This error is almost always caused by one of the following IE8 browser configuration settings:
1. Pop-up blockers
2. Trusted Sites
3. Compatibility View
4. Local Java Version
To resolve the issue, check and set the following if necessary:
1. Pop-up blockers - Select IE8's Tools / Pop-up Blocker and either disable or configure to have your site's URL as an exception2. Trusted Sites - Select IE8's Tools / Internet Options / Security Tab / Trusted Sites and add "about:blank" (minus quotes) and your site's URL in the trusted site list.
3. Compatibility View - Select Tools Compatibility View or Compatibility View Settings to make sure that Compatibility is set for your site:
4. Local Java Version - Select Tools / Internet Options / Advanced tab and scroll down to "Java (Sun)". If the box is checked, the browser is overriding the server's version with the local version, which may be incompatible. Un-check this box and restart the browser session.
It may be necessary to close and restart your browser session after modifying the settings.
