IBM Support

Large number of files in Document Directory lead to slow processing

Troubleshooting

Problem

If you have configured the application to use the Document Storage type as File System then by default a new directory is created once per day to store the documents on the file system. When there is a substantial load this can lead to several hundreds of thousands of files being written to the same directory. Depending on the file system this can be responsible for a dramatic slowdown of the entire system.

Symptom

The system is  generally slow.

Trying to manipulate files in the document directory is extremely slow.
