Symptom
If the ServeRAID controller is configured and attached to drives after installing Red Hat Linux 7.1 using the onboard Adaptec controller, kernel panics occurs.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM 
xSeries servers:

The system may be any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

The Red Hat, version 7.1 network operating system (NOS) is affected.
Solution
If the system BIOS has the boot priority setting, verify that it is set to "Onboard SCSI".
- Edit /etc/modules.conf and change the loading order of the ips and aic7xxx modules to the following:
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
alias scsi_hostadapter1 ips - Make a new init ramdisk: mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-2.4.2-2.img 2.4.2-2
- Run: lilo -v
- Reboot
Additional information
Kernel panic results in the ips module being loaded before the Adaptec module.
