Item Description Examples
The following examples show how item descriptions are displayedin Sterling TMS.
Example: Shipment Contains One Order and One Item
Thefollowing example shows how Sterling TMS displays thedescription for a single-stop shipment:
- An electronics retailer creates a single-stop shipment whichconsists of one order.
- The retailer enters the manifest for the order:
- There is one shipping unit which consists of 20 pallets.
- The pallets contain one item Model 123 Laser Printers.
- When the retailer views the shipment or order on the Shipments tabthe Description column shows the following entry:
Model 123 LaserPrinters
Example: Shipment Contains Multiple Orders and Items
Thefollowing example shows how Sterling TMS displays thedescription for a multi-stop shipment:
- An electronics retailer creates a shipment that consists of threeorders.
- The shipper enters the manifest for Order A which contains thefollowing items:
- Five pallets of Desktop Scanners
- Seven pallets of DVD drives
- The shipper enters the manifest for Order B which contains 12pallets of Video Monitors.
- The shipper enters the manifest for Order C which contains 11pallets of Laser Printers.
- When the retailer views the shipment on the Shipments tabthe Description column shows the following entry:

Sterling TMS displays thisentry because it is the first item for the first order. The plus sign(+) sign indicates that the shipment contains multiple items.
- When the retailer views Order A on the Shipments tabthe Description column shows the following entry:

Sterling TMS displays thisentry because it is the first item entered for the order. The + signindicates that the order contains multiple items.
- When the retailer views Order B on the Shipments tabthe Description column shows the following entry:
Video Monitors
- When the retailer views Order C on the Shipments tabthe Description column shows the following entry:

Example: When the + Sign Indicates Multiple Descriptions
Eachof the following examples shows when Sterling TMS displays theplus sign (+) sign next to the item description:
- An order consists of one shipping unit which contains multipleitems.
- An order consists of multiple shipping units each of which containsone or more items:
- One shipping unit contains 5 pallets of laser printers.
- Another shipping unit contains 20 cases of DVD drives.
- A shipment contains one order which contains multiple items.
- A shipment contains multiple orders. Each order contain differentitems.
- A shipment contains multiple orders. One order contains an itembut the others do not.
