When we attempt to establish an Enterprise Extender connection, we see the following message group displayed by VTAM:

 IST2123I DIAL FAILED FOR EE PU puname - EXISTING CONNECTION FOUND
 IST1680I type IP ADDRESS ip_address
 IST1680I type IP ADDRESS ip_address
 IST314I END

How do we resolve this issue?

Answer

If a predefined switched PU attempts to dial a connection to an adjacent EE endpoint and an existing connection is found that uses the same local and remote IP addresses, then the request will fail. The IST2123I message group you are seeing is issued when the connection fails.

VTAM prevents the activation of parallel Enterprise Extender (EE) connections between the same IP addresses.
