Issues with viewing documents in worklists that have many workpackages

Troubleshooting

Problem

After you upgrade to IBM Content Navigator Version 3.0.9, the client is having issues with viewing documents in worklists that have many workpackages.

Symptom

There are no problems with worklists that have 150 or less workpackages. However, when users try to access worklists with even 750 documents, the application appears to hang. This problem might also occur while you view in-basket contents.

Cause

The VScroller UI component allocates large memory while it processes the information.

Resolving The Problem

Apply either IBM Content Navigator Version 3.0.9 interim fix 7 or IBM Content Navigator Version 3.0.10 interim fix 3. When you specify a page size that is larger than the default (200), the VirtualVScroller UI component is used instead of the VScroller UI component. The pagination bar is still displayed.

In the IBM Content Navigator Version 3.0.8 release, the VScroller UI component was used (along with pagination) instead of the VirtualVScroller UI component because clients reported the following issues:

  • When the user scrolls to the end of the page and scrolls up, the scroll bar is positioned in the middle even when the first item in list is displayed.
  • When you move up or down through the list by using the Scroll Wheel, Arrows, or the Scroll Bar, the rows display erratically instead of scrolling smoothly.
  • You move the scroll bar to the end and then, click the Up arrow of the scrollbar to move up the documents one at a time. The scrollbar moves up, but the document rows do not move up. Only the last two rows move up and down with each click instead of all the rows moving up or down smoothly for each click, as expected. When the scrollbar reaches the top, then the rows move to the top.
  • You add several documents to a folder, select an item in the content list, and scroll up by using the Up arrow icon. The content list does not scroll up and you are repeatedly returned to the selected item.
  • When you move the scroll bar to the end of the list, the getNextWorkItems request might be called twice.
  • On a Windows workstation, after you run a search that returns a large result, scroll to the end and select all (Ctrl-A). When you choose the export (right-click), the number of items that are displayed are less than the total of the actual results that were returned from the search.
Clients might experience those known issues when they use a page size that is larger than the default.
If you want to use the VScroller UI component for larger page sizes, a new
vscrollerPageSizeThreshold setting is added to the ContentList UI component. The default value can be changed by using a custom plug-in.
