ISPPLIB Allocation failed RC 8 from ALLOC request when using EYUTSODS

Troubleshooting


Problem

You start the CICSPlex Session Manager (CPSM) End User Interface (EUI) main menu for the first time by using the CPSM REXX exec EYUTSODS. You receive the messages: ISPPLIB Allocation failed. RC=8 from ALLOC request Restoring original allocations due to above error. The second attempt to start the EUI is successful.

Cause

You have another LIBDEF in effect for ISPPLIB before you started the EYUTSODS exec.

Diagnosing The Problem

You receive the following ISPF messages when starting the EUI by running EYUTSODS.

BBILINK Will allocate 'SYS2.CICDV1.IBM.CPSM.V2R2M0.SEYUAUTH'
BBILINK Allocation Complete.
BBSDEF Will allocate 'SYS2.CIC.G6TDC11.EV1SDEF'
BBSDEF Allocation Complete.
ISPTLIB Will allocate 'SYS2.CICDV1.IBM.CPSM.V2R2M0.SEYUTLIB'
ISPTLIB Concatenation Complete.
ISPLLIB Will allocate 'SYS2.CICDV1.IBM.CPSM.V2R2M0.SEYUAUTH'
ISPLLIB Concatenation Complete.
ISPMLIB Will allocate 'SYS2.CICDV1.IBM.CPSM.V2R2M0.SEYUMLIB'
ISPMLIB Concatenation Complete.
ISPPLIB Will allocate 'SYS2.CICDV1.IBM.CPSM.V2R2M0.SEYUPLIB'
ISPPLIB Allocation failed. RC=8 from ALLOC request.

EYUTSODS uses the ISPF LIBDEF service to logically concatenate CPSM libraries to ISPLLIB, ISPTLIB, ISPMLIB, and ISPPLIB. The EYUTSODS CLIST issues the following LIBDEF command which results in the RC=8:

"ISPEXEC LIBDEF "CNCTDDNM" DATASET ID("LIST.CNCTDDNM") COND"

The ISPF Services Guide section 2.21 indicates that if the DATASET and COND keywords are specified on the LIBDEF command that if a previous LIBDEF is in affect for that library, the COND keyword will result in the original LIBDEF remaining in effect. The ISPF LIBDEF service returns with code of 8.

Resolving The Problem

Identify the LIBDEF that was in effect. Only one LIBDEF can be active at a time.

Enter "ISPLIBD" on the command line before running EYUTSODS. IPLIBD is an ISPF function which displays active LIBDEF libraries. From the resulting display you will be able to identify the application that added the previous LIBDEF.



In the following example, ISPPLIB has an existing LIBDEF active which already includes the specified dataset:
